Streets for All: Reclaiming Streets from Cars

Here are two videos showcasing what can happen when our auto-oriented streets become complete streets. Complete streets ensure that all modes (walking, biking, transit use, and driving) are given equal priority. The first video showcases New York City’s efforts with the addition of bike lanes, pocket parks, and bus only lanes.

At a recent event in Los Angeles, CicLAvia, cars were taken out of the equation all together creating a pedestrian realm stretching 7.5 miles from Boyle Heights to to East Hollywood. Crowds were estimated at 100,000 walkers, joggers, bicyclists, skateboarders with many asking when the next event would be.
